Thinking of attending a private university?

Private universities are not operated by governments, although many receive tax breaks, public student loans, and grants. Tuition and cost of attendance are usually higher at private schools, but many of them also offer lots of scholarships. With scholarships a private school could even end up costing less than a public school and there are many private universities right here in California!

Many private colleges will be sending admissions reps to visit SMHS in September and October, check the schedule in the fall!

Thinking about going to school out of state?

If so, you should know about WUE.

What is WUE? It stands for Western Undergraduate Exchange.

Students who are residents of WICHE states are eligible to request a reduced tuition rate of 150% of resident tuition at participating two- and four-year college programs outside of their home state. The WUE reduced tuition rate is not automatically awarded to all eligible candidates. Many institutions limit the number of new WUE awards each academic year, so apply early! WICHE members include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
