Hello SMHS Families,
As we head into next week’s break, our Attendance Office is experiencing a higher volume of calls regarding absences and early releases. Please review the important reminders below to help keep our processes running smoothly:
📘 All-Day Absences
- Parents/guardians must report absences within 72 hours for them to be excused.
- Excused absences/tardies include: illness, medical/dental appointments, court appearances, a death in the family, DMV/passport appointments, and religious holidays or events.
- All other reasons are considered unexcused per CA Ed. Code 48205.

- Línea de Asistencia (Español): 760-290-2223
⏰ Early Release – PLEASE CALL AT LEAST 2 HOURS IN ADVANCE

- Use the Early Release line☎️ at:

- Due to our large campus and student population, we cannot guarantee an on-time release with less than 2 hours notice.
- Attendance staff cannot call classrooms for last-minute requests. If notice is received less than 1 hour in advance, an on-time release cannot be ensured.
- Students must check out through the Attendance Office and sign back in if they return.
- If a student is feeling unwell, they can go to the Health Office.
- Pick-Up Location: Parents should pick up students at the black gates near the front office 🚪 unless the student is driving or walking off campus.
🕗 Late Arrivals / Tardies
- Report tardies within 72 hours for them to be excused.
- Call the Arrive Late line📞 at:
- English: 760-290-2211
- Español: 760-290-2223
- Students must check in at the Attendance Office upon arrival, or the tardy/absence will remain unexcused.
- If your student believes they were marked tardy or absent in error, they should speak with their teacher or email them.
🤒 If Your Student Becomes Ill at School
If your student begins to feel sick while at school, they may go to the Health Office at any time during school hours. You do not need to call attendance. The Health Office will reach out to the parent or guardian if the student needs to leave campus.Thank you for your cooperation and continued support in helping us maintain a smooth and efficient attendance process!
Thank you,
