Student Parking Impacts Beginning Monday at SMHS Due to Athletic Improvements Project

Dear Knights Community,
We are excited to share that construction for the 2026 San Marcos High School (SMHS) Sitewide Athletic Improvements Project will soon begin as part of our continued investment in student programs, athletics, and campus facilities.
Beginning Monday, May 18, construction crews will start preparing the site by installing construction fencing, trailers, designated paths of travel, and access areas in accordance with the attached project layout. While major construction activities will take place over the summer months, some work and site adjustments will begin prior to the end of the school year to help support an efficient construction timeline and minimize impacts during the school year. Our goal is to complete the project by October 31, 2026.
As part of this construction preparation, 36 student parking spaces located near the athletic fields toward the back of the school will be temporarily unavailable beginning May 18 through October 30, 2026.
Because student parking at SMHS operates on a first come, first served basis, students are encouraged to plan ahead and consider arriving to campus early, carpooling, or using alternative forms of transportation whenever possible.
Please note that parking permits and parking regulations will be strictly enforced. Students who do not have a first or second period class may find it especially challenging to secure parking on campus later in the morning.
For reference, we have attached a map identifying the parking spaces that will be impacted during this phase of the project.
To help support our campus community during this temporary parking reduction, students and staff may park at the SMUSD District Office (DO), located at 255 Pico Avenue, San Marcos, CA 92069, and utilize district-provided bus transportation to and from campus at no charge. Bus transportation will be available Monday - Friday prior to the start of school, with buses departing the DO at 7:40 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. After school, buses returning to the DO will depart the SMHS campus at 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
We are also actively working on additional temporary solutions for the remainder of the school year and into the beginning of next school year. We will share further updates and information as they become available.
Throughout construction, the safety of our students, staff, families, and visitors will remain our top priority. Clearly marked pathways and signage will be in place, and we will communicate any impacts to campus access, parking, athletics, or student activities as needed.
We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and support as we work to enhance the SMHS campus and create improved spaces for our students and school community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
